Filmmaker Sudha Kongara was at the centre of an online controversy after she said that it was taking too long to get censor clearance for her upcoming film Parasakthi. The Sivakarthikeyan movie, which also stars Ravi Mohan, Sreeleela, and Atharvaa, has now come under fire on social media for more than just certification problems.
There was a new wave of anger after pictures and videos from the recent Pongal celebrations at Union Minister L Murugan's house spread quickly online.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi was a special guest at the event, which also featured Parasakthi actors Sivakarthikeyan and Ravi Mohan, as well as music composer GV Prakash Kumar. Fans of the actors have questioned the optics of the film's team going to the celebration, saying it goes against the film's ideological premise.

Parasakthi is an anti- congress film. That’s why it got the CBFC clearance. Jana Nayagan is Thalapathy Vijay’s film. Vijay already declared that BJP is our ideological enemy. That’s why it got stuck with CBFC. pic.twitter.com/Xun91EMFuU — Vijayan S (@vijayan38151) January 15, 2026
On the one hand Sivakarthikeyan is acting for DMK Movie Parasakthi and on the other hand he is celebrating Pongal with BJP in Delhi. He is the most cunning, crafty, wily person. pic.twitter.com/0NFpMZ8IM9— Vijayan S (@vijayan38151) January 14, 2026

A lot of the criticism online has to do with the idea that Parasakthi has a story that is based on resisting Hindi imposition. Several netziens say that going to a big event hosted by a BJP leader makes the film's ideological stance weaker.
Some netizens are of the view that language policies are still politically sensitive, especially since Tamil Nadu has long been against any attempt to make Hindi the national language. Language identity has always been an important part of the state's social and political life, which makes the issue even more sensitive.
Parasakthi doesn't openly criticise the BJP, but people online say that its main theme, which is said to be about a movement against Hindi imposition, is at odds with the party's larger goal of making Hindi a unifying language across the country.
The BJP has always said that Hindi should be a link language and not a replacement for regional languages. However, some party leaders have made statements in the past that have led to accusations of cultural and linguistic imposition.
The debate about Parasakthi is getting more attention online. The people who made it are now being questioned about both its political message and its artistic purpose.
