Zendaya has returned to the red carpet in a stunning archival look. The actress sported an eye-catching minidress to the Essence Black Women in Hollywood Awards on Thursday.
However, the outfit looked recognisable to many as the white floral ensemble was previously worn by Whitney Houston. The outfit was inspired by the late singer's 1987 promotional photo that was on the cover of Life magazine.
The asymmetrical Eugene Alexander design has an enormous, gilded floral adornment on the shoulder.
In the opening credits of the 2008 film Sex and the City, Sarah Jessica Parker wore Zendaya's version, but Whitney Houston's had two flowers and a longer hemline. The more recent style has a shorter skirt and simply one massive hibiscus blossom.
Zendaya’s stylist Law Roach took to his Instagram and shared a video featuring Zendaya and Whitney. He took to his Instagram and shared the video with the caption, “An ICONIC piece of fashion history at Essence Women in Hollywood today.”

Roach is renowned for his ability to get highly sought-after vintage apparel with an A-list history; he recently dressed Ariana Grande in a gown that Carol Burnett originally wore, and he has styled Zendaya in other stunning archive pieces.
As Zendaya promotes The Drama, her upcoming movie in which her character is engaged to Robert Pattinson, her most recent all-white ensemble may be a tease of what's to come.
In the meantime, Roach asserted at the SAG Actor Awards earlier this month that she is already wed to her fiancé, Tom Holland. The wedding speculation further escalated after Zendaya was spotted seen wearing a gold band on that finger instead of her Jessica McCormack engagement ring, which may be confirmation of the news.
