The buzz around Varanasi, the ambitious epic helmed by S. S. Rajamouli, continues to intensify. Ever since the project was officially announced and its first-look posters were unveiled, anticipation has remained sky-high.

Now, fresh reports suggest that Mahesh Babu’s first look as Ram from the film has allegedly been leaked, sparking widespread excitement and debate online.

On Saturday, the social media handle Always Bollywood shared a poster of Varanasi on X (formerly Twitter), claiming it revealed Mahesh Babu’s appearance as Lord Rama in the film.

The caption read, “#MaheshBabu's Lord Ram look from the film #Varanasi has surfaced on Mythri Cinemas' digital theatre hoarding in Guntur. The viral poster hints at the actor's intense preparation and the film's epic narrative under SS Rajamouli's direction."

The circulating photo features Mahesh Babu’s silhouette standing atop a cliff, clad in Lord Rama’s signature saffron attire. He is seen holding a bow in one hand and a rudraksh mala in the other, with a quiver of arrows strapped across his back — imagery that strongly evokes the divine warrior persona associated with the Ramayana.

Despite the frenzy, there has been no official confirmation from the makers regarding the authenticity of the poster. Many netizens have pointed out that the image appears to be AI-generated and possibly created by fans.

Observers have also noted that it would be unusual for such a significant character reveal to happen inadvertently on a theatre hoarding without a formal promotional announcement.

Earlier, in an interview, Rajamouli had confirmed that a portion of the narrative unfolds in the Treta Yuga, with Mahesh Babu portraying Lord Rama in flashback sequences.

The revelation had already fueled massive curiosity about how the filmmaker would interpret the mythological timeline within the film’s expansive narrative framework.

Back in November 2025, at a grand launch event held at Ramoji Film City, Rajamouli officially unveiled the film’s title and first look. The three-minute announcement video introduced audiences to a sweeping premise that spans continents and centuries, blending science fiction elements with episodes inspired by the Ramayana.

Scheduled for release in April 2027, Varanasi boasts a star-studded cast including Mahesh Babu, Priyanka Chopra, and Prithviraj Sukumaran in leading roles.
