Kerala CM Pinarayi Vijayan pays last respects to veteran Malayalam actor Sreenivasan

Veteran Malayalam actor, writer and filmmaker Sreenivasan passed away on December 20 after prolonged treatment, with his funeral held amid massive public turnout in Kerala. Kerala Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan, along with leading political leaders and film industry figures, paid their last respects as the actor was laid to rest with state honours.

Kerala CM pays last respects to Sreenivasan

Renowned Malayalam actor, scriptwriter and filmmaker Sreenivasan passed away on Saturday, December 20, after a prolonged treatment for multiple ailments. His funeral took place on Sunday morning with several industry professional paying their last respects to the veteran actor.

Kerala Chief Minister Pinrayi Vijayan also paid his last respects to Sreenivasan.

Sreenivasan’s funeral was held at his residence in Kandanad, Udayamperoor. His cremations will take place today with state honours.

Huge crowds flocked to the Tripunithura Taluk Hospital to offer their respects as word of his passing spread. Fans lined the streets to get a last look when his mortal remains were transported to his home, "Palazhi," on the Kandanad-Vattukunnu Road, at around eleven in the morning.

The body was brought to the Ernakulam Town Hall for public inspection at noon. The public homage was supposed to stop at 3 p.m., but because of the huge attendance, it was prolonged until 3.45 p.m. Later, the body was returned to his home.

Several well-known figures from the political, artistic, and film industries paid their final tributes. Mohanlal showed up at the Town Hall in the afternoon to express condolences, while actor Mammootty went to the household and then the Town Hall.

Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan, Ministers P. Rajeeve and Saji Cherian, MP Hibi Eden, MLAs T. J. Vinod and Roji M. John, CP|(M) district secretary S. Satheesh, NCP national working president P. C. Chacko, CP| state executive member V. S. Sunil Kumar, AMMA General Secretary Kukku Parameswaran, and numerous actors, directors, writers, producers, singers, and cultural figures were among those who paid tribute.

After learning the news, Sreenivasan's older son, actor Vineeth Sreenivasan, hurried back to the hospital after arriving at Kochi airport to proceed to Chennai. Actor Dhyan Sreenivasan, his younger son, who was filming in Kozhikode, also came back right away.
