Finally, after much anticipation, Avatar: Fire and Ash has hit screens worldwide on December 19. Built on the philosophy of incarnation, James Cameron’s Avatar has always been a spiritual journey, and with the film releasing its Devanagari version in Kashi, the vision comes beautifully full circle.
Amid the immense excitement surrounding its release, India’s acclaimed director Sukumar was seen discussing his experience of stepping into the world of Pandora.
Sharing his thoughts on social media, the makers posted a video of Sukumar speaking about his journey into Pandora, captioning it, "Master of mass himself, Sukumar describes his journey into the world of Pandora and it was pure fire @aryasukku."
Reflecting on his experience, Sukumar said, "James Cameron, he is from Pandora. For directors, he is an Avatar, we are just humans. Telling a story so powerfully in science fiction is extremely difficult. I feel the entire family can come and watch it together. It’s a complete entertainer. Three hours and seventeen minutes just flew away. I watched it alone, but didn’t feel alone. I felt like I had gone to Pandora, like I was in a different world. I didn’t even notice who was around me or who wasn’t. It’s an absolute blockbuster. It has as much emotion as a Telugu film, every frame has so much emotion. The emotion between the characters is always flowing. The main characters like Jake, or Neyitri, or Varang, and these are all characters, and Spider… I was continuously immersing myself in these characters."
He further added, "At some moments, my eyes were filled with tears, this is what a theatre experience truly is, this is the movie. We cannot watch James Cameron movies on TV, the visuals won’t be sufficient unless it’s such a big screen. This experience we won’t get it anywhere else but only in a theatre. So, for giving such a wonderful feast to the theatre, we are very thankful to James Cameron. Thank you, thank you very much."
Directed by James Cameron, who co-wrote the screenplay with Rick Jaffa and Amanda Silver from a story the trio developed with Josh Friedman and Shane Salerno, Avatar: Fire and Ash is distributed by 20th Century Studios and produced by Lightstorm Entertainment. It serves as the sequel to Avatar: The Way of Water (2022) and is the third instalment in the Avatar franchise.
The film has been released in India in multiple languages, including English, Hindi, Tamil, Telugu, Malayalam, and Kannada.
