Parasakthi star Sivakarthikeyan and team celebrate Pongal with PM Narendra Modi in Delhi amid political rowTamil actor Sivakarthikeyan is riding high on the successful release of his latest film Parasakthi, which finally hit theatres on January 10 after clearing the censor process just a day earlier. The actor is currently in Delhi to take part in Pongal celebrations and, during his visit, spoke to NDTV about the film, his upcoming projects, and the ongoing controversy surrounding Jana Nayagan.
Sivakarthikeyan attended the Pongal festivities hosted at the residence of Union Minister L Murugan, where he also interacted with the media. Reflecting on the warm reception to Parasakthi, the actor expressed happiness over the audience response and extended festive wishes. “Let this festival spread joy and prosperity throughout the country. I’m very happy that I am celebrating Pongal here in Delhi,” he said.
The conversation inevitably turned to Jana Nayagan, the much-awaited film starring Vijay, which was originally slated for a January 9 release. The film’s release was postponed indefinitely after the Censor Board initially refused to grant it certification, triggering a legal battle. Asked about the situation, Sivakarthikeyan chose his words carefully but supportively, saying, “Whenever it comes, it will be a celebration.”

Following the initial refusal, Jana Nayagan was reviewed by a new censor panel. The producers, KVN Productions, then approached the Madras High Court. On January 9, a single-bench judge directed the Censor Board to grant a UA certificate. However, the order was stayed by a Division Bench after the Censor Board challenged the verdict. The matter is now expected to be heard by the Supreme Court on January 15.
Speaking further about his Delhi visit, Sivakarthikeyan shared his excitement about meeting Narendra Modi for the first time. “I’m meeting the Prime Minister for the first time. I’m excited to meet him,” he added.
When asked about the upcoming Tamil Nadu Assembly elections, the actor declined to comment, stating, “I should not comment on it. I’m here to celebrate Pongal.”
Directed by Sudha Kongara, Parasakthi is set in 1960s Madras and explores the sociopolitical tensions of Tamil Nadu during the anti-Hindi agitations. Like Jana Nayagan, the film also faced censor hurdles before receiving a UA certificate with 25 edits, just in time for its release.
