Colors TV, in collaboration with JioHotstar, has launched its brand-new reality show, The 50, which premiered on February 1. The show brings together 50 celebrity contestants from different backgrounds, promising high drama, tough competition, and unexpected twists.
With a fresh format and a large number of participants, The 50 aims to stand out in the crowded reality TV space. The premiere episode set the tone by focusing on introductions, early mind games, and the first taste of competition.
The first episode:
The premiere began on an impressive and dramatic note as The Lion introduced the format of the show. It was announced that 50 contestants will compete against each other over a span of 50 days to win a cash prize of Rs 50 lakh. Breaking away from the usual format, the show has no traditional host. Instead, the Lion takes charge as the authoritative presence, setting the rules, assigning tasks, and pushing the game ahead.
The first episode was packed with energy as all 50 contestants entered the show and tried to mark their presence. Well-known faces such as Karan Patel, Prince Narula, Urvashi Dholakia, Ridhi Dogra, Digvijay Singh Rathee, Mr. Faisu, Nikki Tamboli, Shiv Thakare, Monalisa, Krishna Shroff, and several others entered the palace, instantly creating buzz and raising curiosity about the competition ahead.
Instead of slow introductions, the makers jumped straight into strategy-building and group dynamics. Contestants were divided into teams, and the first task tested not just physical strength but also mental sharpness and teamwork.
Ten contestants were selected to lead, instantly changing the game’s direction. Karan Patel, Urvashi Dholakia, Shiv Thakare, Monalisa, Nikki Tamboli, Rajat Dalal, Mr. Faisu, Ridhi Dogra, Krishna Shroff, and Prince Narula stepped into captaincy roles.
From the very beginning, alliances started forming, while a few participants clearly chose to play solo.
The episode also highlighted early conflicts, ego clashes, and moments of motivation, giving viewers a clear idea of how intense the journey could be.
When it comes to contestants, The 50 has a mixed and interesting lineup. Some participants already look confident and game-ready, showing leadership qualities and smart decision-making.
A few contestants stood out as promising players due to their calm attitude, strong communication skills, and ability to motivate others during tasks.
As the rounds came to an end, only half of the contestants managed to secure safety, while the other 25 were pushed into the danger zone. The tension increased further when a musical chairs–style twist gave 15 contestants a second chance, pulling them out of danger. This left 10 players still at risk of elimination.
The Lion then announced that the grand premiere would conclude with the season’s first eviction. Following discussions and decisions taken by the captains, Vansajh Singh was eliminated from the competition. His exit triggered visible disappointment among the contestants and sparked a brief, heated exchange, bringing the episode to a dramatic and intense close.
Verdict:
Several contestants made a strong impact in the very first episode, clearly establishing themselves as serious competitors. Prince Narula, Karan Patel, Mr. Faisu, Rajat Dalal, Krishna Shroff, and Sidharth Bharadwaj, among others, stood out with their confidence, performance, and game awareness. Their presence was hard to miss, and they quickly emerged as players to watch this season.
At the same time, contestants like Digvijay Singh Rathee, Manisha Rani, Nikki Tamboli, Arbaz Patel, Siwet Tomar, and Shiv Thakare showed clear potential. While they may not have dominated the premiere, their personalities and past experience suggest that future episodes will bring plenty of drama, clashes, and strategic moves from their side.
On the flip side, Urvashi Dholakia, Monalisa, and Bebika Dhurve failed to make a strong impression in the task. They appeared weaker during the physical challenge, but their screen presence hints that they could deliver strong content as the show progresses. Notably, the show features 27 former Bigg Boss contestants, but due to the large lineup, several participants did not receive significant screen time in the premiere episode.
As the season progresses, viewers can expect strong rivalries, emotional breakdowns, and shocking eliminations. The format gives equal opportunity to both loud and calm players, making the game unpredictable. The premiere episode successfully created curiosity about who will rise as a strong contender and who will fail to handle the pressure.
In conclusion, The 50 has had a solid and engaging start. The first episode managed to grab attention with its fast pace, strong personalities, and competitive tasks. While it is too early to judge the final outcome, the show does not feel like a flop so far. If the makers continue to introduce interesting twists and focus on real gameplay, The 50 has the potential to become a hit among reality show fans.
