The recently released Netflix series Kohrra 2, which features Pooja Bhamrrah in a key role, highlights severe societal realities, such as bonded labourers involving people from Bihar and Jharkhand, beyond crime and intrigue.

In an exclusive interview with Moneycontrol recently, Pooja Bhamrrah spoke about the societal realities and praised filmmaker Sudip Sharma for bravely portraying the harsh reality of society.

She also opened up on Kohrra 2's creators skillfully tackling sensitive topics like bonded work while once again emphasising content over spectacle.

Excerpts from the interview:

Kohrra 2 also sheds light on bonded labour, particularly involving workers from Bihar and Jharkhand. What were your thoughts on the show tackling such a sensitive social issue?

Pooja Bhamrrah: It just shows you the reality, right? The reality that we perhaps… We live in a bubble. I've grown up in the city. And like most of us, we don't really know what goes on in other parts of the world that we have not encountered in our lives. Especially the Punjab that we know. I'll be specific about Punjab because that's where the show is based. Jab bhi Punjab ko dikhaya rahe hain, it's all the balle-balle and all of that, Bahut mazaake tarike se [Punjab has always been portrayed in a fun way, it's all balle-balle and all of that]. This is the first, perhaps… I mean, sir has done this before as well in Udta Punjab.

He has so sensitively touched upon those topics without making it sound preachy, but kind of showed society the mirror. I think that's an extremely brave choice and that's how… Jitti sensitivity se woh darshaaya hai. You've got to be a genius like Sudeep sir to be able to do that.

The actress told Moneycontrol that the most difficult part of filming Kohrra 2 was the finale scene, especially the murder scene that was rehearsed with the action director. She clarified that it is quite challenging to die on TV, particularly because the way her character was killed necessitated that she fall in a way that was not natural to her, requiring several rehearsals to make it appear realistic.
