It appears that the long-awaited OTT debut of Nandamuri Balakrishna's Akhanda 2: Thaandavam is finally on the horizon. Earlier reports suggested that the action drama would soon begin streaming on Netflix, and now the platform has officially confirmed its release date online.
Sharing the news on Instagram, Netflix India posted a poster of Nandamuri Balakrishna in Akhanda 2 and confirmed that the film will be available to stream on Netflix starting January 9, 2026.
The caption read, "Why fear, when the legend Balayya is here Watch Akhanda 2 on Netflix, out 9 January in Telugu, Hindi, Tamil, Kannada and Malayalam."
Directed by Boyapati Srinu, Akhanda 2 marks his fourth collaboration with Balakrishna following the hits Simha, Legend, and Akhanda.
The sequel expands on the spiritual and mass-driven themes of the 2021 blockbuster, aiming to make the story even bigger and more impactful. The plot ventures into global and political territory, following a Chinese general seeking revenge after losing his son in the Galwan clash.
In the sequel, Harshaali Malhotra reprises her role as Janani, now grown up and working as a scientist. This forms a major emotional thread in the story. Her life is once again threatened because she has developed the antidote to a virus, prompting Akhanda to return and protect her.
Akhanda 2 was released worldwide in theatres on December 12, 2025, and received mixed reactions from both audiences and critics. A part of Moneycontrol’s review stated, "The second half has a powerful emotional and spiritual impact thanks to a scene in which Lord Shiva appears. Thaman's pulsating background music is worth mentioning because it makes even the most boring parts of the movie more exciting and adds a lot to the emotional and action-packed high points. Akhanda 2 has a lot going on and the story remains weak. Boyapati Sreenu puts Balakrishna's heroic rise ahead of the story's depth, which leads to arcs that aren't fully developed and chances that are missed."
The movie’s music was composed by Thaman S, cinematography was handled by C. Ramprasad, and editing was done by Tammiraju. While fans continue to follow Akhanda 2’s OTT release with anticipation, this time the excitement is not driven by box office performance but by the opportunity to stream the action-packed sequel at home.
