The highly anticipated Kannada-Tulu movie "Jai" will be available for streaming on ZEE5, the top domestic OTT platform in India, starting on February 6. Celebrated for its socio-cultural resonance and grassroots storytelling, "Jai" is a significant addition to ZEE5's schedule, particularly since it is the first Tulu film to debut on the channel alongside its Kannada counterpart.
Jai, which is directed by Roopesh Shetty, who also appears in the movie, combines comedy, action, drama, and sociopolitical commentary into a cinematic story that is firmly anchored in the cultural fabric of coastal Karnataka.
The narrative, which strikes a balance between current events and compelling character moments, centres on Satya, a young man from Simhabettu hamlet whose awareness of local issues propels him from local politics into a larger fight for his people's well-being.
Jai includes a powerful ensemble cast starring Roopesh Shetty, Raj Deepak Shetty, Adhvithi Shetty, Aravind Bolar, Devadas Kapikad, Naveen D Padil, Bhojaraj Vamanjoor and many popular regional artists. The film also features a Bollywood icon, Suniel Shetty, marking his debut in Tulu cinema.

With record-breaking screenings in both Tulu and Kannada, Jai left a lasting impression on audiences. It was praised for its genuine depiction of village life and its energetic performances, which combined heart, humour, and a sense of community. With hundreds of screenings and high audience participation in coastal areas and beyond, it established a noteworthy precedent for linguistic cross-appeal.
Director and lead actor, Roopesh Shetty, said, “Jai comes from a very personal space. It is rooted in the soil, language, humour, and anger of coastal Karnataka. We made this film for people who see themselves on screen, their villages, their politics, their everyday struggles. Bringing Jai to ZEE5 in both Kannada and Tulu feels like the story has finally found the reach it deserves, especially for Tulu audiences who rarely see their language represented on major platforms.”
Suniel Shetty, who debuted in the Tulu industry with this film, says, “When I agreed to be part of Jai, it wasn’t about the scale or the screen time. It was about the honesty of the film. Tulu cinema carries a rawness and cultural pride that is rarely seen nationally. I’m glad that Jai will now reach a wider audience through ZEE5; this is how regional voices truly travel beyond borders.”
