During a recent appearance on the Zach Sang Show podcast, Nick talked about Varanasi and said, “Priyanka has been shooting one movie for 14 months, on and off. It’s a South Indian film with SS Rajamouli, who directed RRR, his last movie. This is his next big film; it’s going to be incredible.”

The singer also shared his love for Hindi music and added, “The melodies are just so incredible. They are on a scale that we are not as familiar with over here. The thing I love about Hindi music and music from Southeast Asia is that, a lot of the time, the music comes from a film and becomes famous.”

Nick continued, “So often it’s the actors who are lip-syncing to someone else’s voice. But there are these music composers who specialise in making songs sound like big hits and fit cinematically. That’s something very inspiring to me. There’s so much great music in Indian cinema.”

He went on to discuss how Indian music frequently becomes a festival, with people dancing in theatres to it.

In January, a puja was held to launch Varanasi, but images from the event were not released to protect Mahesh Babu's movie appearance. The makers have also dropped an intense first look poster of her character.

In the movie, Priyanka portrays Mandakini. The movie marks Priyanka's eight-year comeback to Indian cinema and Mahesh's big-screen comeback following his 2024 film Guntur Kaaram.

Prithviraj Sukumaran plays the antagonist in the movie. Mahesh will also play Lord Ram in one of the movie's scenes, the director has disclosed, adding that time travel is also a part of the plot.

Varanasi is set to hit the theatres on April 7, 2027.
