Japanese singer-songwriter Fujii Kaze debut with his first performance in India at Lollapalooza India 2026, and the occasion carries a deeply personal meaning for the artist beyond just another festival appearance. In an exclusive interview with India Today, Kaze described India as his “spiritual hometown,” explaining that Hindu philosophy and teachings have long influenced his life and music.
Best known for blending genres like jazz, R&B, gospel and J-pop into an introspective, soulful sound, Kaze has cultivated a global following by making music that prioritises meaning over mere mainstream appeal. His latest album, Prema — derived from the Sanskrit word for divine love — is a direct reflection of these spiritual underpinnings.“My parents are fascinated by Hindu teachings, and so am I,” he said.
Kaze said that spirituality isn’t just a passing inspiration, but something that continuously shapes his life and creative process. “Deep inside I already know the truth, and I have to keep reminding myself of that. And this album reflects its philosophy and feelings more than ever,” he said.
“Spirituality has been my everything in life. And it's getting stronger as time goes by,” he shares, adding, “It doesn't always inspire new music, but when I make music, I try to connect with something spiritual, not material.”
A visual accompaniment to the album, the video for Grace, was shot in the serene landscape of Uttarakhand, where misty mountains and open skies become metaphors for stillness and reflection. Kaze said this visual was less about performance and more about capturing a slice of his everyday connection to nature and spirituality.

Despite the high-energy environment typical of Lollapalooza festivals, Kaze hopes to bring his introspective style to the stage in Mumbai, connecting with audiences through emotion and shared humanity. “I hope Lollapalooza India will be the perfect place to perform my songs,” he said, adding that he’s excited yet unsure what to expect from Indian crowds. “India is my spiritual hometown, so hopefully I can feel the sense of brotherhood and oneness with them.”
