Bollywood's latest horror comedy, Munjya, became a surprise hit at the box office. The movie, which was made on a minimal budget of Rs 30 crore, has been performing really well at the box office.
The movie, which is now in its second week, has earned a whopping Rs 71 crore, and it is still going strong in theaters.
Munjya, which has been directed by Aditya Sarpotdar, stars Shravari Wagh, Mona Singh, and Abhay Verman in the lead roles.
This is Sharvari's first solo lead film and a hit film. She will now be seen joining Alia Bhatt for the yet-untitled film from YRF's spyverse.
Maddock Films, which has produced Munjya, shared an update on the film's success and new earnings.
According to Sacnilk, Munjya had an occupancy of 18.68 percent on Day 14, and it is still going strong.
The film had good word of mouth and is standing tall against a biggie like 'Chandu Champion.' Today another movie 'Ishk Vishk' is going to release, which stars Hrithik Roshan's cousin Pashmina Roshan, Rohit Saraf, and Jibraan Khan in the lead.
Munjya earned Rs 36.50 crore in its first week and has till now earned Rs 34.50 crore in the second week.
Before the release of the movie, Moneycontrol had an exclusive chat with Aditya Sarpotdar, where he spoke about comparisons being drawn with the hit movie Stree.
"Definitely, they come from the same production, so people expect it to be as good as 'Stree'. In a way, it is good for us because when we make a film in this genre under the Maddock banner, people relate to a certain quality that it has offered so far in all these years. We need to deliver that kind of quality, and that has been the challenge, and that's what we need to step up to. But in a way, it's great that we are considered among the films that Maddock has made, and that helps to create a certain buzz for 'Munjya'. The similarities will be drawn because there is a certain kind of fan theory that Maddock is creating its own horror universe, and I think at that point people are trying to draw parallels as to how a 'Munjya' is related to 'Stree' and how a 'Stree' is related to 'Bhediya' and how a 'Bhediya' is related to 'Munjya'. These kinds of theories are being made, and it is interesting to see that people are really investing in these ideas. So I feel that when Munjya is released, people will see how it is connected and how it is not," he told us.
Munjya was released on June 7 worldwide.
