Smriti Mandhana shares a new Instagram post days after cancelling her wedding with Palaash Muchhal, says, "calm isn’t silence, it’s control"

Smriti Mandhana’s latest Instagram post has gone viral, arriving just days after she publicly confirmed that her wedding to composer Palaash Muchhal had been called off. The Indian cricketer shared a promotional video for a smartphone brand, but the timing and the tone of her message have drawn intense attention across social media.

In the clip, Smriti speaks about maintaining composure through turbulence. “I let my calm do the talking and my belief do the heavy lifting,” she says. She follows it with another line: “Ownership isn’t a title, it’s a mindset.” Her caption echoes the theme: “For me, calm isn’t silence – it’s control.”

The post picked up momentum almost immediately, crossing 10 lakh likes in under 24 hours. Supporters filled the comments with messages of admiration and reassurance. One user wrote, “Keep making India proud SM! You deserve nothing less than the best.” Another commented, “Yeahhh… Smriti is back.”

This surge of public solidarity comes at a sensitive moment for the cricketer. On December 7, she addressed ongoing speculation about her personal life and confirmed that her wedding had been called off. In a detailed note, she wrote, “Over the past few weeks there has been plenty of speculation around my life and I feel it is important for me to speak out at this time. I am a very private person and I would like to keep it that way but I need to clarify that the wedding is called off.”

She urged the public and media to allow both families space to heal, adding, “I would like to close this matter here and implore all of you to do the same. I request you to please respect the privacy of both families at this time and allow us the space to process and move on at our own pace.”

In the same note, she reaffirmed her commitment to cricket. “I believe there is a higher purpose driving us all and for me that has always been representing my country at the highest level. I hope to continue to play and win trophies for India for as long as possible and that is where my focus will forever be. Thank you for all your support. It’s time to move forward.”

The wedding had initially been postponed after Smriti’s father was hospitalised on the day of the ceremony. Around the same time, speculation grew around reported issues between the couple, including unconfirmed rumours about Palaash’s conduct. Palaash, who was also briefly hospitalised in Sangli, later returned to Mumbai with his family. Neither party responded to the rumours until both released statements on December 7 confirming that the wedding had been called off.
