After Kalki 2898 AD, netizens debate whether Amitabh Bachchan got the 'respect' he deserved in Ranbir Kapoor starrer Brahmastra

One user wrote, “They didn't, if I am not wrong his name was mentioned in the credits after not just Ranbir Kapoor but also after the likes of Alia Bhatt, this isn't how you treat a legend like Amitabh Bachchan as simple as that."

In its debut week, Kalki 2898 AD, helmed by director Nag Ashwin, stormed the global box office with a staggering Rs 700 crore in earnings. Featuring a stellar cast including Prabhas, Deepika Padukone, Amitabh Bachchan, and Kamal Haasan, the film captivated audiences worldwide.

Recently, producer Ashwini Dutt's remarks about the film sparked discussions, particularly on Reddit, where some questioned whether Amitabh Bachchan received adequate acknowledgment for his role in Brahmastra: Part One – Shiva, released in 2022.

Ashwini Dutt said, "Prabhas told me that Amitabh Bachchan is the first hero of Kalki 2898 AD. We should respect him, and that's when we will be respected. He also mentioned that his dream came true when Kamal Haasan joined the project.”

A Redditor shared his statement and wrote, “I feel Brahmastra makers didn't gave that respect to Amitabh. His role in Brahmastra may not be as prominent as Kalki 2898 AD but still ….”

Many came to second this opinion. One user wrote, "Amitabh was pretty much a Wiki page for the Astraverse sadly. It’s such an ageist trope, glad Kalki 2898 AD works against it. They also cast a dark Krishna and had so many badass women in the supporting roles. Pretty great strides.”

Another wrote, “They didn't, if I am not wrong his name was mentioned in the credits after not just Ranbir Kapoor but also after the likes of Alia Bhatt, this isn't how you treat a legend like Amitabh Bachchan as simple as that. Karan Johar really lacks this basic sense, he tried to sell a ₹450 crore magnum opus franchise on the 'chemistry' of Ranbir-Alia's pairing, a film that should have been more about Amitabh and Ranbir's mentor-mentee relationship, considering it was supposed to be a trilogy and that was the first part.”

A third commented, "Even Amitabh’s role was a snooze fest. Made no sense. They really could have written the entire movie and his part better. It was such a good concept but such bad execution."

In Kalki 2898 AD, Amitabh Bachchan portrays Ashwatthama, a pivotal character from Hindu mythology, set against a dystopian future. Known for his mythical lineage, unwavering devotion, and controversial deeds in the Mahabharata, Ashwatthama's portrayal adds depth to the narrative.

Conversely, in Brahmastra: Part One – Shiva, Amitabh takes on the role of Raghu, also known as 'Guruji,' a revered leader wielding the powerful Prabhastra. The film follows Ranbir Kapoor as Shiva, the son of Amrita and Dev, who joins the Brahmānsh and possesses the formidable Agniastra within himself.
