Moon Moon Sen's husband Bharat Dev Varma passes away

Veteran Bengali actress Moon Moon Sen's husband Bharat Dev Varma, died at his Kolkata residence on Tuesday (November 19) due to old age-related illness. Moon Moon and Bharat have two daughters - Raima and Riya Sen - both are actresses.

According to sources, he passed away at their Ballygunge Circular Road home, just as preparations were being made to rush him to a nearby hospital due to his worsening health condition. He was 84 at the time of his demise.

West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee took to X  and paid her tribute.  “Saddened by the demise of Bharat Dev Varma, the husband of filmstar Moon Moon Sen, and himself a great well-wisher of mine. After getting the news today morning, I visited their Ballygunge residence, where their daughter Riya was present. Moon Moon and Raima are coming from Delhi. I paid my respect to the departed and condolences to the family.  He was indeed very loving and affectionate to me and I shall always treasure his memories. He truly considered me as part of his family and his demise is a great loss for me,” she wrote.

Bharat Dev Varma was a descendant of the royal family of Tripura.  Ila Devi ji, who was a princess of Cooch Behar and the elder sister of Gayatri Devi, the Maharani of Jaipur.

Bharat and Moon Moon tied the knot in 1978. Moon Moon is the daughter of iconic Bengali actress Suchitra Sen and Dibanath Sen. Moon Moon's father belonged to a prominent family in Ballygunge Place. Her great-grandfather, Dinanath Sen, served as the Diwan (minister) to the Maharaja of Tripura.

Moon Moon Sen entered the film industry after her marriage and giving birth to her daughters Raima and Riya.

Moon Moon made her debut in the 1984 movie Andar Baahar and later went on to do many movies, including 100 Days and Zakhmi Dil. She was also seen in Telugu film Sirivennela, and My Karma.

She has worked in 60 films and 40 television shows.

Moon Moon's daughters, Raima and Riya Sen are also big names in the industry.
