National Award-winning filmmaker Madhur Bhandarkar has officially wrapped the shoot of his upcoming film The Wives, marking the end of production and the beginning of post-production work. Known for his hard-hitting, insider portraits of the film industry, Bhandarkar once again turns his lens inward, this time focusing on the emotional and personal lives of women living in the shadow of fame.
The Wives brings together an ensemble cast that includes Sonali Kulkarni, Mouni Roy, Regina Cassandra, Rahul Bhatt, Saurabh Sachdeva, Arjan Bajwa, and Freddy Daruwala. The film is currently heading into post-production, with the release date yet to be announced.
Staying true to Madhur Bhandarkar’s signature style, The Wives promises to look beyond the surface-level glamour associated with Bollywood. Instead, it explores ambition, insecurity, emotional survival, and the unspoken dynamics of relationships that exist behind the public image of success. The film examines how fame reshapes personal identities, often leaving those closest to it navigating isolation and silent compromises.
In an official statement, Bhandarkar described the film as a deeply personal story. He said that The Wives looks beyond the spotlight and into lives that are often overshadowed by fame, exploring relationships, ambition, insecurity, and emotional resilience in a world driven by image and success. He added that his aim was to tell the story with honesty and sensitivity, thanking the cast and crew for bringing authenticity to the screen.
Producer Pranav Jain of PJ Motion Pictures also spoke about the collaboration, calling his association with Bhandarkar creatively fulfilling. He noted the director’s rare ability to present complex human stories in a relatable way, describing The Wives as bold, thought-provoking, and emotionally driven cinema that will resonate with audiences who appreciate meaningful storytelling.
Bhandarkar also addressed recent speculation around the film’s casting, clarifying that Fatima Sana Shaikh is not associated with the project and was never signed to play any role in the film.
The Wives marks Bhandarkar’s second collaboration with Pranav Jain after India Lockdown, which was praised for its realism and timely narrative. With filming now complete, updates on the release are expected in the coming months as the film moves steadily through post-production.
