Actor Lavanya Tripathi allegedly facing harassment on social media, approached Hyderabad Cyber Crime Police. The Indian actor had lodged a formal complaint against an Instagram account that was posting abusive comments and defamatory matter about her and her family, news agency PTI reported. A case has been registered under relevant provisions of the Information Technology Act and the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), and an investigation into the matter has started.

According to reports, Lavanya complained about a certain Instagram account that was reportedly posting false allegations and objectionable content regarding her personal life and family members. The actor said in her complaint that the posts were misleading as well as emotionally distressing. She reportedly told authorities that the repeated comments had harmed her family’s reputation and caused unnecessary mental strain. Suspecting that the files were infected, Hyderabad Cyber Crime Police have taken it seriously. They have started a case.

Based on the complaint, a case was registered by the Hyderabad Cyber Crime Police under Section 67 of the Information Technology Act along with Sections 78 and 79 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita. These laws cover the distribution of indecent material online and the use of social media to harass or intimidate people. Cybercrime officers are now trying to trace who is behind the account. Investigators are likely to explore digital footprints, IP and other technical evidence to link the person.

The controversy has come at a time when discussions around Lavanya’s extended family have been going viral online. Ram Charan and wife Upasana Kamineni Konidela became parents to twins -- Shivram and Anveera Devi -- earlier this year. Simultaneously, an old statement from veteran actor Chiranjeevi about wanting to have a male heir resurfaced on social media and triggered discussion among the users.

In 2023, Lavanya Tripathi tied the knot with actor Varun Tej. The couple had their son, Vaayuv in 2025. On the work front, Lavanya will next be seen in the Telugu romantic comedy Sathi Leelavathi, helmed by Tatineni Satya. Dev Mohan plays the lead and Naga Mohan is producing it under the Anandi Art Creations banner.
