Hyderabad police have named Aman Preet Singh, the younger brother of Bollywood and South cinema star Rakul Preet Singh, as an accused in a high-profile drugs case unfolding in the city’s Masab Tank area. The development comes as investigators intensify their crackdown on narcotics distribution and consumption ahead of the New Year period.
Earlier this week, Telangana’s EAGLE (Elite Action Group for Drug Law Enforcement) and Masab Tank police launched a manhunt to locate Aman after interrogations of two drug suppliers revealed that he was among regular customers purchasing illegal substances from them. Authorities recovered cocaine and MDMA during the raid on December 17 and have since connected Aman’s name to the supply network.
Aman, who is also an actor with credits in Telugu and Hindi films, had previously been identified in a separate joint narcotics investigation by the Telangana Anti-Narcotics Bureau (TG-ANB) and Cyberabad Police Special Operations Team. In that 2024 probe, police seized about 199 grams of cocaine, along with passports, vehicles and mobile phones, leading them to a list of 13 suspected consumers — including Aman — who later tested positive for cocaine use during medical screening. He was arrested then and booked under the NDPS (Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances) Act before being produced in court.
Police sources emphasized that the latest case is separate but tied to the broader drug network being dismantled in Hyderabad. The EAGLE unit has increased surveillance and enforcement across key city locations to curb drug circulation, especially with festive celebrations underway. Numerous arrests and ongoing raids reflect authorities’ efforts to dismantle narcotics syndicates and prevent abuse.
Rakul Preet Singh, a recognised actor in Bollywood and South Indian cinema, has previously faced scrutiny from agencies in unrelated narcotics inquiries, though police have clarified that she is not implicated in the current Masab Tank investigation involving her brother.
The investigation is ongoing, and officials say further arrests or charges are possible as more leads develop and suspects are traced.
