When BTS’s Kim Taehyung, better known as V, unveils a teaser, it rarely exists on a surface level. His latest photobook announcement, TYPE 非, is a prime example. It looks less like a promotional drop and more like a layered artistic statement.
From shadow-heavy visuals and glowing vintage televisions to the striking use of a single Hanja character, everything about the teaser feels deliberately cryptic. Unsurprisingly, ARMYs were quick to dissect its meaning.
At the centre of the intrigue is the character 非. For those unfamiliar, Hanja refers to traditional Chinese characters historically used in the Korean language, often carrying deep philosophical and cultural weight. The character 非 is pronounced “bi”, a phonetic echo of “V” in English. This linguistic choice feels intentional, especially given that Taehyung has previously spoken about learning Hanja from his grandfather during childhood.
V 'TYPE 非' Concept Preview 1 📅 Pre-order: 2025.12.31. 11AM (KST)#V#뷔#TYPE_非pic.twitter.com/PrPUPrtZ2R— BTS_official (@bts_bighit) December 28, 2025
In its literal sense, 非 translates to “non-,” “not,” “wrong,” or “the opposite of.” It denotes negation, contradiction, and refusal. Rather than something negative, it often represents resistance to definition or a conscious step away from what already exists. Within the context of TYPE 非, this meaning feels central. The character appears alongside what looks like a traditional seal in the teaser imagery. Fans quickly linked this to old Korean identity stamps used on official documents. Seen this way, 非 functions almost like a signature.
This interpretation becomes even more compelling when placed alongside Taehyung’s recent reflections on identity. In interviews, including his conversation with Vogue Japan, he has openly discussed the divide between Kim Taehyung the individual and V the global performer. TYPE 非 appears to live in that in-between space.
Visually, the teaser reinforces this idea. The eerie glow of old televisions suggests a questioning of which version is real, or whether authenticity must even be singular. The mood is stark, surreal, and intentionally uncomfortable, a sharp contrast to the warmth and coastal intimacy of V’s 2024 photobook released during his military service.

Online, fans embraced the ambiguity. Social media was flooded with Hanja breakdowns, philosophical interpretations, and playful commentary about V turning a photobook into an existential thesis.

With pre-orders opening on December 31 at 11 am KST, TYPE 非 is already being viewed as more than a collectible.
Meanwhile, Indian fans are excited ever since V greeted them during a Weverse live saying, “Namaste, Indian ARMYs. See you next year,” dropping a strong hint that India could be included in BTS’ much‑anticipated 2026 world tour.
