K-Pop sensation PSY is currently under investigation as the Seodaemun Police Station in Seoul conducted a search and seizure operation at P Nation on December 4, reportedly gathering evidence to support potential charges against the singer, according to Yonhap News.
A professor connected to a university hospital is also under investigation for allegedly prescribing drugs to PSY without adhering to the correct medical protocols.
The medications in question include Stilnox and Xanax, which are frequently prescribed for depression, anxiety, and sleep disorders. Due to the possibility of dependence and abuse, both drugs necessitate in-person consultations.
Police claim that PSY's manager or other middlemen picked up his prescriptions on his behalf and that he received them without attending in-person consultations.
Representatives for the “Gangnam Style" singer denied any wrongdoing, explaining that PSY was diagnosed with a chronic sleep disorder and was following a prescribed treatment plan under medical supervision. “There was no proxy prescription involved," they emphasized.
The agency added that PSY had begun using remote consultations during the COVID-19 pandemic and continued the practice afterward because of his demanding schedule.
While acknowledging “an aspect of negligence" in this method, they maintained that the singer neither misused the medications nor received prescriptions under someone else’s name.
The hospital involved has declined to comment due to the ongoing investigation. The attending physician, however, stated that the remote consultations were legitimate and conducted according to medical standards.
Meanwhile, P Nation has confirmed it is fully cooperating with authorities, stating, “We fully cooperated with the authorities’ request and will take all necessary steps in accordance with legal procedures moving forward."
