After months of uncertainty and repeated postponements, the wait for Vaa Vaathiyaar is finally nearing its end. The makers of Karthi’s upcoming film have officially confirmed its theatrical release for January 14, 2026, marking it as a special Pongal festive offering.

The announcement was accompanied by a four-minute sneak peek, unveiled on Tuesday, just a day ahead of the film’s scheduled release.

The sneak peek has already begun making waves online, giving audiences a glimpse into the film’s tone, scale, and Karthi’s character, while carefully holding back major plot details.

Visually rich and emotionally charged, the preview hints at a blend of humour, drama, and mass moments, elements that have become synonymous with both Karthi’s recent choices and director Nalan Kumarasamy’s storytelling style.

Vaa Vaathiyaar is produced by Studio Green, with K. E. Gnanavelraja backing the project. Kumarasamy, who has earlier delivered critically acclaimed films such as Soodhu Kavvum and Kadhalum Kadanthu Pogum, returns to the director’s chair with this highly anticipated venture. Actress Krithi Shetty plays the female lead, marking her collaboration with Karthi for the first time.

The film’s journey to the big screen has not been smooth. Initially slated for a December release, Vaa Vaathiyaar faced multiple delays due to legal and financial hurdles, leaving fans anxious about its fate. Addressing the delay and confirming the new release date, the Studio Green team shared a heartfelt note two days ago, emphasizing cinema’s emotional connect with audiences, especially during festive seasons.

“To all cinema lovers. Cinema is more than stories on a screen; it is a shared heartbeat,” the note read. “It is where audiences, artists, and dreamers come together, especially during festivals like Pongal, when families gather to celebrate the magic of the big screen.”

Explaining the postponement, the statement added, “Our film Vaa Vaathiyaar was originally scheduled for release in December. However, due to unavoidable circumstances, the film could not be released as planned. We are now happy to announce that Vaa Vaathiyaar will release worldwide on January 14, as a Pongal festive release, a time that perfectly reflects togetherness, joy, and celebration.”

The makers also extended goodwill to other films hitting screens during the festive window, thanking fans, exhibitors, distributors, theatre owners, and the entire film fraternity for their patience and support. With the sneak peek setting expectations high and the release date finally locked, Vaa Vaathiyaar now stands poised to make its long-awaited Pongal splash at the box office.
