Sivakarthikeyan’s much-discussed period drama Parasakthi has made its digital debut following a successful theatrical run during the Pongal festival. Directed by Sudha Kongara, the film began streaming on ZEE5 from February 7, 2026, in multiple languages. However, what has drawn significant attention is the availability of the uncut Tamil version on the platform.
The film, which collected over Rs 100 crore at the box office, had undergone 25 censor cuts before its theatrical release in India. The Central Board of Film Certification reportedly trimmed scenes involving intense violence, strong language and politically sensitive elements. As a result, Indian audiences watched an edited version in cinemas.
In a notable move, ZEE5 has now made the fully unedited Tamil version accessible to viewers in India. While the film is available in other languages including Telugu, the uncut edition is currently limited to the Tamil version only. Interestingly, overseas markets such as the UK had screened the uncut version during its theatrical release, allowing international audiences to watch the film in its original form.
Parasakthi was released in theatres on January 10, 2026, strategically advancing its release amid delays faced by other major films. The Pongal holiday window ensured wider screen availability, contributing to its strong opening numbers. However, despite early momentum and festival advantage, the film struggled to sustain its box office pace in the following weeks.
Set against the politically charged backdrop of the 1965 anti-Hindi imposition protests in Tamil Nadu, the period action drama blends intense action sequences with emotional storytelling. Sivakarthikeyan plays the lead role, delivering one of the most powerful performances of his career. The film also marks Sreeleela’s Tamil debut. The supporting cast includes Atharvaa, Ravi Mohan, Dev Ramnath, Prithvi Rajan, Guru Somasundaram, Basil Joseph, Papri Ghosh and Rana Daggubati.
Produced by Dawn Pictures, Parasakthi also holds significance as the 100th film of composer GV Prakash Kumar. The film’s team celebrated Pongal on January 14, 2026, at a special event in New Delhi attended by Prime Minister Narendra Modi. The gathering was hosted by Union Minister of State for Information and Broadcasting, L. Murugan.
