Kalki 2898 AD director Nag Ashwin shares latest update about filming of the sci-fi thriller's sequel, says preps underway

He confirmed that work on the sequel is already in progress, with filming scheduled to commence in December this year.

Director Nag Ashwin has shared an exciting update about the much-anticipated sequel to Kalki 2898 AD, the sci-fi mythological thriller that became a massive box-office success.

Speaking to the media ahead of the re-release of his debut film Yevade Subramanyam, Nag Ashwin spoke about the progress of the sequel.

He confirmed that work on the sequel is already in progress, with filming scheduled to commence in December this year.

Nag Ashwin also addressed fans' curiosity regarding Prabhas' screen presence in the sequel.

He explained that the first installment primarily focused on world-building and establishing the backstories of key characters, particularly Sumati, played by Deepika Padukone, and Ashwatthama, portrayed by Amitabh Bachchan. This foundation, he noted, was essential to setting the stage for the second part, which will delve deeper into the story of Karna, played by Prabhas.

Ashwin stated that the second part would focus more on Karna and Ashwatthama, with Prabhas playing a significantly larger role, assuring fans of his increased presence in the upcoming film.

Kalki 2898 AD, featuring an ensemble cast that includes Amitabh Bachchan, Prabhas, Deepika Padukone, and Kamal Haasan in pivotal roles, emerged as a box-office juggernaut. Following its release in June 2024, the film garnered an impressive worldwide collection of Rs 1,180 crore, solidifying its position as one of the biggest hits of the year.

Kalki 2898 AD is a grand science fiction epic set in a post-apocalyptic future, unfolding 6,000 years after the Kurukshetra War. The story takes place in Kasi, the last surviving city, which is under the oppressive rule of Supreme Yaskin. His relentless pursuit of a mysterious serum, extracted from fertile women, fuels the enigmatic Project K.Prabhas takes on the role of Bhairava, a hardened bounty hunter navigating the harsh dystopian landscape of Kasi. Motivated by self-preservation and personal gain, he embarks on perilous missions, aided by his AI companion, Bujji, as he maneuvers through a world teetering on the edge of ruin.
