  • Kalki 2 filming begins in Hyderabad with high fan anticipation

The sets of Kalki 2 have just turned into a time machine. Veteran icons Amitabh Bachchan and Kamal Haasan have reunited on screen after nearly four decades, as the sequel officially went on floors in Hyderabad. The moment the two cinematic titans came together again, social media erupted with nostalgia and excitement.

Confirming the reunion, Amitabh Bachchan shared a note on his blog, writing, “And meeting up with the great KAMAL HAASAN we shall be working together after ages .. last in Giraftar (sic).” Their last collaboration dates back to the 1985 action drama Geraftaar, a film remembered not just for its gripping storyline but also for its powerhouse ensemble that included Rajinikanth. For many fans, this reunion feels less like casting news and more like cinematic history repeating itself.

Amitabh Bachchan also posted pictures from Hyderabad, offering a glimpse into the early days of filming. Addressing his absence from his weekly Sunday Darshan with fans, he wrote that work commitments had kept him away. “Work first .. rest later,” he noted, assuring admirers that he would return soon.

So what makes Kalki 2 such a significant stage for this reunion?

The film is the sequel to the 2024 blockbuster Kalki 2898 AD, a dystopian sci-fi epic inspired by Hindu scriptures. Headlined by Prabhas, the original introduced audiences to a futuristic world built around the prophecy of Kalki, believed to be the final incarnation of Lord Vishnu. Directed by Nag Ashwin, the film laid the foundation for what is now being called the Kalki Cinematic Universe.

In the sequel, Big B reprises his role as Ashwatthama, a character rooted in mythology yet reimagined in a sci-fi landscape. Kamal Haasan is expected to continue his arc as Supreme Yaskin, whose presence in the first installment added a powerful layer of intrigue and menace.

With shooting now underway, anticipation is steadily building. The combination of mythology, futuristic storytelling and the rare sight of two legends sharing screen space has positioned Kalki 2 as more than just a sequel. It promises scale, spectacle and emotional weight.

When two giants reunite after 40 years, it is not merely about nostalgia. It is about legacy stepping back into the spotlight, reminding audiences why some collaborations become timeless.
