Jr NTR breaks silence on Devara criticism: ‘We’ve lost the innocence of enjoying movies’

Jr NTR recently addressed the mixed response to his latest film, Devara: Part 1, which was released in theatres on September 27.

Despite a strong opening day, with the film earning ₹172 crore, it experienced a significant drop in its box office performance.

Directed by Koratala Siva, Devara was one of the most highly anticipated films of the year, but its reception has been polarizing, receiving both praise and criticism.

In an interview following the release, Jr NTR reflected on the evolving nature of movie audiences today. According to India Today, the actor noted how the simple joy of watching films has been replaced by constant analysis and judgment.

“We as an audience have become very negative these days. We are not able to enjoy a film in an innocent manner anymore. When I watch my sons, they don’t care about what actor or what movie they are watching; they just enjoy movies. I wonder why we are not able to be that innocent anymore?”

Jr NTR expressed that modern viewers seem more inclined to critique and dissect films rather than just enjoy the experience. “Every film today, we are watching it to analyse. We are all constantly judging, analysing and overthinking about films. Maybe our exposure to cinema has made us like this. Maybe this is all part of the cycle. All of this might go to an extreme or already did, and then, will correct itself and return to normal.” he added.

The film features Jr NTR in a dual role, alongside a stellar cast that includes Saif Ali Khan, Janhvi Kapoor, Prakash Raj, Srikanth Meka, Tom Shine Chacko, and Narain. Saif Ali Khan portrays Bhaira, a formidable wrestler whose world is turned upside down by Jr NTR’s character. Despite its mixed reviews, the film captivated many viewers with its gripping narrative and action sequences.

Nonetheless, the film’s massive opening day reflects the high expectations audiences had for the project, even if opinions about it are divided.
