Actors Jayaram and Urvashi, two of the most respected performers in South Indian cinema, are set to reunite on screen after nearly two decades in director Pandiraj’s upcoming comedy film. The project, which is currently under production, has already generated strong buzz among fans of Malayalam and Tamil cinema, even though the film’s title has not yet been officially announced.
Jayaram recently confirmed the reunion and spoke with visible excitement about sharing screen space with Urvashi once again. “After 20 years, we are starring in a film together. Shooting is going on, but a title has not been finalised yet. It has a massively entertaining, humour-filled narrative,” he said. The actor also revealed that the atmosphere on set has been anything but routine. “Each scene will take about 10 to 15 takes as we would keep laughing in between shots. Pandiraj sir would wait for us to finish laughing to start shooting the next scene,” Jayaram added, offering a glimpse into the light-hearted energy surrounding the film.
Jayaram and Urvashi share a long and successful history of collaborations that have left a lasting impression on audiences. Films like Chakkikotha Chankaran and Kadinjool Kalyanam in Malayalam, along with the Tamil cult hit Panchatanthiram, showcased their natural chemistry and impeccable comic timing. Even in recent years, their pairing has remained memorable, with the two appearing as a couple in the 2020 Prime Video anthology Putham Pudhu Kaalai.
Recalling Urvashi’s unique approach to performance, Jayaram shared an anecdote from the current shoot that underlined her instinctive brilliance. “This film has a scene where she will repeat the exact same words that I would have told her not to say and then look at me while asking, ‘What I said was right?’ Nobody can pull off such an expression,” he said, praising her spontaneity and control.
While details about the storyline and supporting cast are being kept under wraps, the reunion itself has become the film’s biggest talking point. Jayaram noted that working with Urvashi often leads to improvisation, laughter, and moments that feel organic on screen.
On the work front, Jayaram was recently seen in Kantara: Chapter 1 and is awaiting the release of his Malayalam film Ashakal Aayiram. Urvashi was last seen in Prince and Family and earned widespread acclaim for Ullozhukku, winning both national and state awards for her performance.
