Aadi Saikumar’s Shambhala, which arrived in theatres on December 25, quietly emerged as one of the more distinctive releases of the crowded December box office. While several big-ticket films competed for attention, Shambhala stood out for its unusual mix of science, mysticism, and folklore-driven storytelling. Strong word of mouth helped the film gain momentum, with audiences praising its atmospheric world-building and concept-heavy narrative. According to trade reports, the film performed well commercially, collecting around Rs 20.21 crore worldwide, firmly establishing it as a sleeper hit.
For viewers who missed its theatrical run, Shambhala is now set for its digital debut. The supernatural sci-fi thriller will begin streaming on Aha from January 22, 2026. Subscribers to Aha Gold will get exclusive early access a day earlier, starting January 21. The film will be available primarily in Telugu, catering to its core audience while also attracting genre lovers looking for something unconventional.
Set in the 1980s, Shambhala is rooted in a remote village whose fragile balance is disrupted after a mysterious meteor crashes nearby. Soon after the incident, villagers begin exhibiting disturbing behavioural changes, and a series of unexplained deaths triggers fear and paranoia. As panic spreads, many residents attribute the chaos to supernatural forces, ancient myths, and divine punishment.
At the centre of the story is Vikram, played by Aadi Saikumar, a scientist who enters the village determined to investigate the phenomenon through logic and empirical reasoning. His scientific worldview clashes with the villagers’ deep-rooted beliefs, creating tension as folklore and rationality collide. As Vikram digs deeper, the line between myth and reality begins to blur, raising unsettling questions about the true nature of the meteor and the forces at play.
Aadi Saikumar delivers a restrained and grounded performance, anchoring the film’s cerebral tone. Archana Iyer appears as Devi, a pivotal character who connects scientific inquiry with village lore. Swasika, known for her work in Lubber Pandhu, plays an important supporting role, adding emotional weight to the narrative. The film is directed by Yugandhar Muni and produced by Mahidhar Reddy and Rajashekhar Annabhimoju.
On the technical front, Praveen K Bangari’s cinematography effectively captures the eerie rural setting, while Sriram Madduri’s background score enhances the film’s tension. Madduri has previously worked with Hollywood composers such as Hans Zimmer, known for Dune, Inception, The Dark Knight, and Dunkirk.
With its ambitious premise, strong performances, and genre-bending approach, Shambhala promises to be a compelling OTT watch for fans of sci-fi thrillers and supernatural mysteries.
