South Korean actors IU and Park Bo Gum's starrer Netflix series When Life Gives You Tangerines is receiving huge praise from the audience and the critics alike. The series aired the final episode in March, and IU has been sharing the behind-the-scenes photos and details of the show.
However, the actress recently reflected on the scene that left a lasting impact on her. During a recent episode of YouTube show B TV’s Piaakia with Lee Dong Jin, IU talked about various emotional scenes and admitted that she was left devastated by the death of her character O Ae Sun’s youngest son, Yang Dong Myeong.
IU opened up about the death scene and said, “Ae Sun is written as someone who cries a lot, but in that (death) scene, it was written that she does not cry. Instead, it’s Gwan Sik, played by Park Bo Gum, who breaks down."
The actress also reflected on the challenges she faced during filming and admitted that it was hard to control her tears at the moment. She said, “Every time I felt like I was about to tear up, the director would remind me Ae Sun is not sad. She doesn’t cry here.” She added, “I realized that not crying could be more heartbreaking.”
For the unversed, IU was talking about the scene where her character, O Ae Sun, sits with her deceased child, pleading for others to save him.
When Life Gives You Tangerines is a poignant romance drama starring IU and Park Bo Gum in lead roles. IU takes on a dual role, playing Ae-sun as well as her daughter Geum-myeong decades later as a middle-aged woman. The series also features Park Bo-gum, Kim Seon-ho, Park Hae-joon and Moon So-ri in the key roles.
