The buzz around Don 3 has taken a dramatic turn, with fresh claims, denials and now a possible financial dispute coming to light. After reports suggested that Ranveer Singh had stepped away from the project due to creative differences with the makers, rumours quickly followed that Hrithik Roshan might be brought in as a replacement. The actor has now firmly denied those claims.
Hrithik, who had a cameo appearance in Don 2, addressed the speculation in a statement to Variety India. He said, “What started off as just a rumour has now taken on an entire life of its own, and it’s important to set the record straight. I would like to categorically clarify that I was never approached for Don 3 at any given time. Requesting media to steer clear of any such unverified reports.”
His clarification comes at a time when multiple reports suggest tensions between Ranveer Singh and the production house behind the franchise, Excel Entertainment, led by Farhan Akhtar and Ritesh Sidhwani.
According to a report by Bollywood Hungama, Ranveer allegedly raised concerns about the script and the production process. The report stated, “Ranveer blamed Excel Entertainment for unprofessionalism and not being serious about taking Don 3 on floors. He stated that Farhan Akhtar never had a bound script in place and that, as an actor, he prefers to work only with fully developed material.”
The report further claimed that the actor had reservations about certain aspects of the script. It added, “Ranveer also pointed out that Farhan was never open to feedback on the script and had issues incorporating certain subplots. He further alleged that Excel was exploring the possibility of getting Hrithik Roshan on board and only re-approached him after the success of Dhurandhar, to capitalise on his momentum.”
However, sources close to the production have presented a different version of events. Speaking to Variety India on condition of anonymity, a source said, “Ranveer claims he left the project because he wasn’t happy with the script. He kept asking for changes to be made and didn’t like what the final draft read. Excel, on the other hand, claims that they went ahead with pre-production only after Singh gave his go ahead.”
The disagreement has reportedly escalated into a financial matter. Sources indicate that the production banner believes the actor should compensate the company for alleged losses, which are said to be as high as Rs 40 crore. With tensions rising, the Producers Guild of India is likely to step in as a mediator.
As of now, neither party has issued an official detailed statement beyond Hrithik's clarification. The future of Don 3 remains uncertain, with fans awaiting clarity on casting, production timelines and whether the franchise can move forward amid the controversy.
