Disney's hit sequel Zootopia 2 has recently bagged another milestone, breaking a new record. The animated film has now become Hollywood's highest-grossing animated film in history.
According to Variety, Zootopia 2 has surpassed another successful Disney sequel, Inside Out 2 (2024), with a global box office total of USD 1.7 billion (USD 1.69 billion).
However, according to Deadline, the film directed by Jared Bush and Byron Howard is the ninth highest-grossing film ever at the worldwide box office, even topping The Lion King and Jurassic World. At USD 2.25 billion, China's Ne Zha 2 is still the largest animated film ever.
Disney Entertainment co-chairman Alan Bergman said in a statement, "This milestone belongs first and foremost to the fans around the world whose enthusiasm made it possible. We're incredibly proud of our filmmakers Jared Bush, Byron Howard, and Yvett Merino and the entire team at Walt Disney Animation Studios for creating a film that connects so deeply with audiences everywhere."
He added, "Zootopia 2 is an extraordinary achievement, and we're grateful to everyone who helped bring it to life."
Over the course of five days, Zootopia 2, which debuted in theatres over the Thanksgiving holiday, brought in USD 156 million in the United States and USD 559.5 million worldwide, making it both the year's largest worldwide debut and the greatest global animated opening ever.
