The legal case surrounding Russell Brand has taken a significant new turn, with the Metropolitan Police confirming that the broadcaster and comedian now faces two additional charges, including one count of rape.
As per BBC, the latest update follows a review by the Crown Prosecution Service (CPS), which authorised the new charges after further allegations came to light involving two different women.
Russell Brand, who is 50, had already been charged earlier with five offences relating to four women.
Those charges include two counts of rape, two counts of sexual assault and one count of indecent assault, all of which he has pleaded not guilty to.
The newly authorised charges are separate from those earlier allegations and are said to relate to incidents that allegedly occurred in 2009.
According to the Metropolitan Police, Russell Brand is expected to appear at Westminster Magistrates’ Court on 20 January 2026 in connection with the two new charges. Meanwhile, a trial for the original five charges is scheduled to begin at Southwark Crown Court on 16 June 2026.
The earlier allegations span several years, with reported incidents dating back to between 1999 and 2005. These include claims of rape in Bournemouth, indecent assault in the Westminster area, and further allegations of sexual assault in central London.
The breadth and seriousness of the accusations have kept the case firmly in public focus.
The investigation began in September 2023, following detailed reporting by The Sunday Times, The Times and Channel 4’s Dispatches.
Since then, detectives have continued gathering evidence and speaking with complainants, a process that has now resulted in the additional charges.

Detective Chief Inspector Tariq Farooqi of the Metropolitan Police has stated that the women who have come forward are receiving ongoing support from specially trained officers, acknowledging the difficulty of speaking out and engaging with the criminal justice process.
Russell Brand, who was born in Essex and later built a high-profile career in television, radio and film, became a household name through comedy and presenting before finding success in Hollywood.
As the case progresses through the courts, the focus now remains on the legal process ahead, with all allegations yet to be tested at trial and Russell Brand continuing to deny wrongdoing.
