Justin Bieber and Hailey Bieber are drawing a clear line when it comes to online speculation about their marriage, choosing to address the issue head-on rather than quietly letting it pass.
Known for keeping their private life largely out of the spotlight, the couple has now taken a rare and serious legal step after viral social media videos accused their relationship of being “abusive and unhealthy".
The controversy centres around TikTok creator Julie Theis, who shared a series of videos analysing celebrity relationships and used Justin Bieber and Hailey Bieber’s marriage as an example of what she described as troubling dynamics.
According to TMZ, the couple’s lawyer, Evan Spiegel, sent Theis a cease-and-desist letter, accusing her of having “fabricated" claims about their relationship. The notice reportedly demanded that the videos be taken down and warned of legal action should similar content continue to be published.
Documents referenced by Billboard show that Evan Spiegel of Lavely and Singer argued that the videos created “a false defamatory narrative concerning our clients and their marriage that was published and widely disseminated."
The letter went on to state that Julie Theis’ “conduct is wrongful, highly damaging, actionable, and exposes [her] to substantial liability." It also cautioned that she “acts at her own peril" if she continues making such claims.
Before the situation escalated, the videos had already attracted hundreds of thousands of likes and views across TikTok and Instagram.
Julie Theis has since acknowledged receiving the legal notice and has pushed back publicly. She maintains that her videos were “clearly opinion-based commentary about relationship dynamics and power" rather than direct accusations.
Framing the issue as part of a broader conversation about free speech, she described the legal action as an attempt to “silence and intimidate " her. In follow-up videos, she called the letter “elitist" and a “temper tantrum of the rich," adding, “Being offended by people’s opinions does not entitle you to people’s voices."
For Justin Bieber and Hailey Bieber, the situation appears to be less about public debate and more about protecting their family. Hailey Bieber has dismissed ongoing rumours about their marriage as “baseless" and clarified that she had no involvement with or support for the disputed videos.
Married since 2018 and now parents to a young child, the couple has faced years of speculation about their relationship.
Their representatives have described the latest wave of commentary as “exhausting", emphasising that, away from social media noise, the Biebers are doing well and focused on their life together.
