When Jonathan Nolan visited India in 2024, he didn’t just promote his work — he left behind a lasting fondness among Indian film fans by boldly saying that Bollywood was “bigger than” Hollywood.
Now, as he gears up for the release of Fallout Season 2, Jonathan Nolan has once again spoken about Indian cinema with the same admiration and sincerity that won hearts last year.
During the Asia premiere of Fallout Season 2 in Tokyo, Jonathan Nolan talked of his earlier praise for Bollywood.
When asked what he believes gives Indian cinema an advantage over Hollywood, he didn’t hesitate to express genuine respect.
He told Hindustan Times, “I think it's very clear, and you sort of started to see the global fascination with Indian filmmaking. It is fearless in those ways at its best. Hollywood can be, too. But (in India), there's a level of ambition that is very exciting.”
But despite his admiration, Jonathan Nolan admits he hasn’t been able to watch as many Indian films as he would like. The demanding nature of creating a large-scale series like Fallout means his time is no longer his own.
He said, “Unfortunately, given the schedule of making television means you often don't have a lot of time to watch any television or film. The media diet in my house is still largely decided by my two lovely kids, who are still going through a Miyazaki phase. So there are a lot of Miyazaki films (in the house). But yes, I am lucky to be working as hard as we have, but when we finally get a break, I'm looking forward to watching (more Indian films).”
For now, Jonathan Nolan’s attention is firmly on the second season of Fallout, which brings back its ensemble cast — Ella Purnell, Aaron Moten, Kyle MacLachlan, Moisés Arias, Xelia Mendes-Jones, and Walton Goggins.
The first episode arrives on 17 December on Prime Video, with weekly releases through 4 February 2026.
