  • Daniel Radcliffe praised the SNL parody as funny and sweet
  • The sketch reimagined Harry and Ron as rivals in a secret romance

Stranger Things actor Finn Wolfhard hosted  Saturday Night Live (SNL)’s first episode of the year, which aired on January 17. The crew shocked the audience during the performance by combining two very distinct universes in a sketch.

They created Heated Wizardry, a parody of Harry Potter, based on the concept of the hockey romance Heated Rivalry. Finn and comedian Ben Marshall performed as elder versions of Harry and Ron Weasley in the sketch.

In a twist that seemed like something from fan fiction, the novel portrayed them as 18-year-olds entangled in a covert romance.

Daniel Radcliffe, who portrayed Harry Potter in all eight films, has recently reacted to the infamous parody. He revealed that he received a message from Finn informing him about the sketch prior to the episode airing.

During a recent interview with Rolling Stone, Daniel said that he likes to see a fresh take on the well-known character and said he thought it was lovely and humorous.

Daniel said, “Weirdly, I had met Finn Wolfhard a few weeks before, randomly, and we chatted for a bit. And then he texted me the day before it aired, being like, ‘Hey, just so you know, we’re doing a Harry Potter sketch.’ I haven’t seen Heated Rivalry, although I am very aware that my girlfriend is a huge fan. I’m sure there are jokes I was missing, but it was very funny and sweet. I’m always happy to see other versions of that. It makes me laugh."

Harry Potter SNL Parody

Heater Wizardry, a parody of Harry Potter, begins with a charming but awkward first meeting between Harry and Ron Weasley at Hogwarts. One of them drops a wand, causing their hands to brush, and the scene swiftly turns into light-hearted flirtation. After that, the cartoon shifts to a Quidditch match, but instead of emphasising the sport, it emphasises the escalating hostility between the two. Their rivalry feels more passionate than competitive as they glide on their brooms.

The chemistry is even apparent to the professors. While McGonagall responds with a mischievous look, Snape observes the action with great interest. The trailer makes it apparent that Hogwarts is portrayed more like a college campus and that all of the characters are adults in this rendition.

Hermione, Draco, and Moody are among the other well-known characters that make an appearance. At the end, Dobby makes a quick but memorable appearance for a humorous moment, and Jason Momoa plays Hagrid.

The story of Ilya Rozanov and Shane Hollander, whose hockey rink rivalry gradually develops into a secret love story in Heated Rivalry, serves as the basis for the spoof.

Saturday Night Live has produced a number of comedic sketches based on the Harry Potter series since it became a worldwide sensation. Daniel Radcliffe's appearance on the show was one of the most memorable. He reprised his role as Harry Potter in a 2013 sketch, which turned unpleasant and somewhat embarrassing.
