Chris Evans is officially back in the Marvel Cinematic Universe as Captain America’s Steve Rogers, with the first teaser for Avengers: Doomsday confirming his return—even in a surprising new role that finds the iconic hero in a more personal moment. The teaser, which has begun appearing in theaters alongside screenings of Avatar: Fire and Ash, offers fans their first glimpse at what might be one of the MCU’s most ambitious ensemble films yet.
The brief teaser opens in a peaceful, rural setting where an older-looking Steve Rogers arrives at a farmhouse. He dismounts a motorcycle, sets down his helmet, and later tenderly holds a baby, raising speculation that this version of Captain America may be a father or guardian figure as Doomsday’s events unfold.
The final frames confirm that Avengers: Doomsday will hit theaters on December 18, 2026, marking the first time Evans has appeared as his original Cap since Avengers: Endgame (2019), where his character passed the shield to Sam Wilson before retiring.
Evans seemed adamant that Cap would not be back and even went on record to say he was "happily retired." In a separate interview, he said, "It's sad to not be back with the band, but I'm sure they're doing something incredible, and I'm sure it's going to be that much harder when it comes out, and you feel like you weren't invited to the party."
Doomsday promises to be a sprawling multiverse event, bringing together a lineup of beloved heroes from across Marvel’s cinematic and comic-book legacy. While details about the full story remain under wraps, past reports and promotional material hint at appearances from Thor, Ant-Man, and X-Men characters, as well as the return of major stars like Robert Downey Jr. as the villainous Doctor Doom.
