The beloved magical world of Harry Potter series by J.K. Rowling is set to return to screens as a television series on HBO. The author recently announced an open casting call for the iconic roles of Harry Potter, Hermione Granger, and Ron Weasley. The call is specifically targeting children aged 9 to 11 from the United Kingdom and Ireland.

On social media platform X (Formerly X), J.K. Rowling shared the casting announcement by captioning it, "So, this is happening."

She emphasized the search for new faces to bring these legendary characters to life. She said, "Open casting call for children to play the roles of Harry Potter, Hermoine Granger and Ron Weasley in the upcoming HBO Original series adaptation of 'Harry Potter'."

The open casting call highlights a commitment to diverse and inclusive casting, stating that all qualified performers will be considered, she elaborated, "We are committed to inclusive, diverse casting, For every role, please submit qualified performers, without regard to ethnicity, disability, race, sexual orientation, gender identity, or any other basis protected by law unless otherwise specifically indicated."

The application process for aspiring actors involves submitting two brief self-tapes. The first tape should feature a short poem or story, excluding any content from Harry Potter.

“Please prepare a short poem or story of your choosing. It can be from your favourite book, a poem that you love, a monologue from a play or something you’ve created yourself. Please, nothing from ‘Harry Potter’. Please use your own accent. 30 seconds maximum!” the casting call states.

The second self-tape should be “a short video telling us a bit about yourself, including your date of birth, height and where you live. In addition, please describe any family member, friend or pet that you are particularly close to. Please use your own accent. One minute maximum.”

The deadline for submissions is October 31. Filming for the series is slated to take place in the UK during 2025-2026, with the show expected to premiere in 2026, as noted by Warner Bros Discovery CEO David Zaslav in a February earnings call.

The Harry Potter series is planned to span seven seasons, with each season adapting one of the original books by J.K. Rowling. This new adaptation promises to bring fresh life to the magical world that has captivated audiences for decades.
