Call Me Bae is a drama based on the true story of wealthy heiress, Bae Jun Eom, who soon became to relatives with her scandalous actions. Left penniless, she is forced to return to Mumbai and becomes a bootlegging wanabe. The book explores Bae's path of self-realization, her resourcefulness and the total makeover she undergoes. Over the course of its eight total episodes, Bae finds friendship, love and identity in a postcard perfect take on city life.

Karan Johar has shared an exciting new trailer for his upcoming web series Call Me Bae, set to premiere on Prime Video India on September 6. The show directed by Collin D’Cunha, promises a blend of drama and excitement as it follows the life of a South Delhi heiress navigating the bustling city of Mumbai.

The trailer for Call Me Bae opens with a glimpse into Bae’s luxurious life of privilege in New Delhi. However, her opulent world is abruptly upended when she is disowned by her family. The scene then shifts to the vibrant streets of Mumbai, where Bae must navigate a new, challenging reality on her own.

Set to an upbeat soundtrack, the trailer captures Bae’s journey from adjusting to public transport to tackling the demanding role of a journalist. As she faces numerous obstacles, she forms unexpected friendships and alliances, tackling each challenge with her unique wit and humor. Filled with humorous and endearing moments, the trailer promises an inspiring transformation and leaves viewers excited to see Bae’s journey unfold.

Taking to social media, Karan Johar teased, "Amidst the hustle and bustle of Mumbai, will this South Delhi heiress find her way in? Now, that’s the drama we all want! #CallMeBaeOnPrime, Sept 6”Karan has co-produced the series with Apoorva Mehta and Somen Mishra, centres around The dramatic makeover of Bella 'Bae' Chowdhary (played by Ananya Panday).

The ensemble cast includes notable actors such as Vir Das, Gurfateh Pirzada, Varun Sood, Vihaan Samat, Muskkaan Jaferi, Niharika Lyra Dutt, Lisa Mishra, and Mini Mathur. With a script penned by Ishita Moitra, Samina Motlekar, and Rohit Nair, the series promises a compelling mix of humor, drama, and heartfelt moments.

“From the get go, I knew Call Me Bae was a project I wanted to be a part of. Even without having heard the script I knew this was going to be something special,” said actor Ananya Panday.

Karan Johar also added to the conversation “While there have been many stories that follow the rags-to-riches trope, Call Me Bae offers a fresh twist by turning the genre on its head. It centers on a young woman from a privileged background, where extravagance was a birthright, who, due to unforeseen circumstances, must now navigate life on her own and hustle and reinvent herself in the bustling city of Mumbai.”

Ananya Panday, known for her roles in films like Student of the Year 2, Rocky Aur Rani Ki Prem Kahaani, and Gehraiyaan, is set to showcase her acting versatility in Call Me Bae. This new series is part of Prime Video India's expanded content slate, which was unveiled in March 2024 and includes a wide array of original series and films. Karan Johar’s involvement in the project highlights his continued influence in shaping Indian entertainment.
