  • Advance sales reached Rs 6.86 crore, may cross Rs 10 crore by day's end
  • Film opens on 4,800 screens, certified UA, runtime is 199 minutes

Border 2 has picked up strong momentum at the ticket window, with PVR INOX reporting that the film has crossed 2 lakh advance tickets sold across the chain ahead of its theatrical release on January 23, 2026. The update comes as exhibitors and trade trackers watch how the Republic Day weekend slate converts pre-release demand into footfalls.

In a statement issued on Thursday, PVR INOX Limited Executive Director Sanjeev Kumar Bijli said, “With over 2 lakh advance tickets sold, Border 2 has opened to a phenomenal response at PVR INOX, reaffirming the audience’s enduring love for big, emotion-driven cinema while engaging a new generation of moviegoers discovering the franchise on the big screen. The strong momentum across our cinemas reflects both the film’s legacy and its relevance for today’s audiences, positioning Border 2 for one of the biggest box office openings in recent times.”

Trade tracking numbers cited in reports indicate the overall market is building quickly. As per Sacnilk data referenced on Thursday, the film had sold 2,15,777 tickets across 14,378 shows for Day 1, collecting Rs 6.86 crore in advance sales. Estimates in the same reports suggested the figure could cross Rs 10 crore in advance sales by the end of the day. Reports said its advance bookings were ahead of recent hit Dhurandhar at a similar pre-release stage.

Scale indicators are also being discussed in the trade. Film analyst Taran Adarsh has said the title is set to open on roughly 4,800 screens in India, translating to about 17,000 shows per day. He also shared certification and runtime details, noting that Border 2 was certified UA by the CBFC on January 21, and has a listed duration of 199 minutes and 7 seconds (3 hours, 19 minutes).

Border 2 is positioned as a sequel to J.P. Dutta’s 1997 hit Border and is directed by Anurag Singh. The film stars Sunny Deol, Varun Dhawan, Diljit Dosanjh and Ahan Shetty, with Mona Singh, Sonam Bajwa, Anya Singh and Medha Rana also part of the cast, and is set against the backdrop of the 1971 India–Pakistan war.
