Border 2 has started its theatrical run on a strong note, with early trends suggesting the Sunny Deol-led war drama is headed for a healthy Day 1 finish. The film, positioned as a big-screen patriotic event and a sequel to the 1997 blockbuster Border, has been drawing steady footfalls through the day, helped by positive audience chatter and the long Republic Day weekend ahead.
As per early tracking, Border 2 clocked around Rs 17.5 crore in advance bookings when “blocked seats” are included.
An industry tracker's live data has also showing upward trend the day,
Occupancy trends indicate a solid base, even if it is not an “earthquake opening.” The film reportedly registered an overall occupancy of about 22.90% across nearly 6,000 shows on Day 1, which is a decent level for a wide release, especially for a genre that relies heavily on word of mouth after the first few shows.
If momentum holds through the late-evening and night shows, the film is expected to push past the Rs 25 crore mark for its opening day.
A key comparison being made in trade circles is with Dhurandhar, which also grew through strong audience response after opening day. The pattern matters because Border 2 now has the advantage of a weekend plus the Republic Day holiday on Monday, which typically boosts collections for mass-appeal titles.
Directed by Anurag Singh, Border 2 stars Sunny Deol, Varun Dhawan, Diljit Dosanjh and Ahan Shetty in the lead.
The opening is expected to be a personal best for Varun, Diljit and Ahan, while Sunny Deol’s biggest opening still remains Gadar 2, which debuted far higher.
Border 2’s arrival has also dented Dhurandhar’s daily numbers at the box office, with the older release seeing a sharp drop as screens and shows shift to the new war epic.
