Actor Yami Gautam has responded to the online chatter that began after social media users noticed she had “liked” an Instagram reel that appeared to criticise Kriti Sanon for winning an acting award for her performance in Tere Ishk Mein.

What seemed like a small social media interaction quickly turned into a talking point among fans, with many speculating whether the actor was subtly expressing disapproval.

As the discussion gathered pace across social media platforms, Yami Gautam decided to address the matter directly. Taking to her X account (formerly Twitter) on Thursday night, she clarified that the “like” was not deliberate and may simply have been accidental.

Explaining how such situations can occur, Yami Gautam pointed out that actors are often tagged in a large number of posts every day, especially during award season or when related content is circulating online.

She explained that the reel appeared among several other tagged posts and that she had not intentionally interacted with it.

In her post, she wrote, "It has come to my notice that I apparently ‘liked’ a reel that is condescending toward another actor. We get tagged in multiple things every day, and this appeared during an award-function reference like any other tag. It isn’t true and was definitely not done consciously, if anything, it may have been clicked accidentally."

Yami Gautam also used the opportunity to speak about the way such moments can quickly spiral into headlines and online gossip. Stressing that she has always preferred to let her work speak for itself, she rejected the idea that she would engage in publicity tactics aimed at stirring controversy.

She wrote, "Never in my life have I resorted to cheap PR tactics. I have always focused on my work and moved on. In the world of clickbait, it’s tempting for even dignified social media portals to harp on this and turn it into coffee-table gossip. But I would hope they would consider that I have earned a better reputation than that."

Wrapping up her clarification, Yami Gautam reiterated that she does not rely on a publicity team and prefers to stay focused on her craft rather than industry chatter.

She concluded, "I have no PR team, have respectfully cleared my stance on entertainment award shows long ago, and remain focused on my work."

On the work front, Yami Gautam was last seen in the legal drama Haq, where she starred opposite Emraan Hashmi. She is anticipated to appear in Dhurandhar: The Revenge, directed by husband Aditya Dhar. But neither Yami nor Aditya has confirmed her role.
