Salim Khan, a renowned screenwriter and father of Salman Khan, was admitted to Lilavati Hospital in Mumbai on Tuesday. According to reports, he had a minor brain haemorrhage and was placed on a ventilator.
Several well-known personalities from Bollywood showed their support and visited the hospital. Amidst the health woes, a throwback interview of Shah Rukh Khan is going viral on social media.
Shah Rukh Khan is among the many well-known figures in the Hindi cinema business that Salim Khan has assisted and mentored during his lengthy and distinguished career.
During a 2018 interview with IANS, Shah Rukh Khan talked extensively about Salim Khan's kindness. He recalled how the seasoned scriptwriter and his family helped him when he was still a struggling actor.
King Khan of Bollywood recalled his early days of struggles in Mumbai and said, “The first time I came to Mumbai as a struggling actor, I had my meals at Salman’s place where Salim Khan ji supported me a lot. It is because of them I have become ‘Shah Rukh Khan’.”
Over the years, a number of people in the film industry, including Shah Rukh Khan, have talked about the kindness and generosity of Salim Khan and his family. The Khan family has frequently been characterised as having an open-door culture, where anyone in need of assistance, food, or industry advice was accepted without reservation.
What happened to Salim Khan?
Salim Khan was rumoured to undergo surgery for a blood clot due to high blood pressure. However, the doctors held a press briefing on Wednesday morning and shared an update on Salim Khan’s health.
Dr Jalil Parkar, who is treating the veteran screenwriter, revealed that Salim Khan suffered a minimal brain haemorrhage and underwent a medical procedure on Wednesday morning.
He told the media, “There was minimal brain haemorrhage. A procedure called DSA was done today morning. No surgery was required. He is still on ventilator. By tomorrow hopefully, he will be off ventilator. Keeping in mind the age, the time of recovery is more.”
Dr Parkar added, “He's fine, he's stable... All in all, he's doing quite well.”
The physician added that Salim Khan was having some "jerks" and that his blood pressure was "high" when he was admitted. "He was given immediate care at the hospital," he said.
On Tuesday morning, family doctor Dr. Sandeep Chopra took Salim Khan to the hospital's emergency room before transferring him to the intensive care unit.
Dr Parkar noted, “After initial diagnosis and medication, we realised he needed ICU care. We put him on the ventilator because we wanted to do certain investigations. He was put on the ventilator as a safeguard so that he doesn't worsen.”
His condition was never "as critical" as was reported in the media, according to doctors. His recuperation is currently being tracked by a group of cardiologists and neurologists.
