Ranveer Singh starrer and Aditya Dhar directorial Dhurandhar has emerged as the highest-grossing film of 2025. The film has officially surpassed the record of Rishab Shetty’s Kantara: A Legend – Chapter 1.

The film's incredible run, which started on December 5, 2025, has broken box office records and cemented its status as a contemporary blockbuster. Take a look at the 10 highest-grossing movies of 2025.

Dhurandhar

As of early January 2026, Dhurandhar has not only become the highest-grossing movie of 2025, but it has also earned a spot in the elite Rs 1000 crore club, something that only a few Indian movies have accomplished. The film has earned Rs 1215 gross worldwide in over a month. Its outstanding performance, which attracted sizable crowds to theatres well into its theatrical run, is evidence of its broad appeal.

Kantara: A Legend – Chapter 1

With Rishab Shetty's Kantara: A Legend – Chapter 1 taking first place, 2025 turned out to be a historic year for the Kannada cinema industry. The movie, which debuted on October 2 and made Rs 852.26 crore globally, is a prelude to the 2022 hit.

The movie, which was made at a budget of Rs 125 crore, was supported by Hombale Films, which is most known for the KGF franchise. Despite receiving mixed reviews, it continued to do exceptionally well at the box office. However, Dhurandhar may soon face competition for the top slot as it surpasses the Rs 600 crore global milestone.

Chhaava

Chhaava, starring Vicky Kaushal, released on February 14 and made Rs 808 crore globally, making it one of the most talked-about Bollywood movies of the year. Despite receiving mixed reviews, Akshaye Khanna's portrayal of Aurangzeb in the epic historical action drama based on the story of Sambhaji won great accolades. Khanna is now receiving praise for his performance in Dhurandhar as Rehman Dakait. According to reports, the budget for Chhaava was between Rs 90 and Rs 130 crore.

Saiyaara

The biggest surprise of the year was Saiyaara. The Mohit Suri-directed movie defied predictions to become the highest-grossing Indian love picture ever when it was released on July 18 with very little promotion and very little media participation. The movie made Rs 570 crore globally and received favourable reviews, with debutant Ahaan Panday and a few films old Aneet Padda receiving special recognition. Additionally, its song became popular on Instagram. According to reports, the movie was produced on a meagre Rs 45–60 crore budget.

Coolie

Coolie, starring Rajinikanth, was purportedly produced on a huge budget of Rs 400 crore and was one of the year's most anticipated films. Aamir Khan, Nagarjuna, and Soubin Shahir were among the ensemble cast members; however, the movie could not live up to the hype at the box office. It made Rs 518 crore worldwide when it was released on August 14 alongside War 2. Its performance was mediocre.

War 2

War 2 is generally seen as a box office failure, even though it bagged the sixth spot in the highest-grossing movies of 2025. Due to the popularity of its predecessor and the collaboration of Hrithik Roshan and Jr. NTR, the movie created a lot of buzz. Critics, however, criticised its poor execution and storyline. With a projected budget of Rs 400 crore, the August 14 release brought in Rs 364 crore globally.

Mahavatar Narsimha

Mahavatar Narsimha, which was directed by Ashwin Kumar, became a sleeper hit. The animated film, which was distributed by Hombale Films, earned Rs 327 crore globally despite having a low Rs 40 crore budget. The film was a rare triumph for Indian animation on this scale, and it was well praised for its visuals and technical skill.

Lokah Chapter One: Chandra

Lokah Chapter One: Chandra, which starred Kalyani Priyadarshan and was produced by Dulquer Salmaan, was another local success story. The Malayalam movie, which debuted on August 28, was a huge box office success. It generated Rs 304 crore globally, more than 10 times its production cost, despite having a claimed budget of Rs 30 crore.

They Call Him OG

After Hari Hara Veera Mallu, actor-politician Pawan Kalyan's Telugu film They Call Him OG was his second box office failure of the year. The movie made Rs 155 crore worldwide on its first day, setting a record for the greatest opening day of 2025, but after that, receipts fell precipitously. Despite having a budget of Rs 200–250 crore, the movie completed its theatrical run with a lifetime gross of Rs 295 crore.

Housefull 5

Housefull 5 completes the top ten. The movie made Rs 289 crore globally despite harsh criticism for its crude slapstick humour. According to reports, the comedic ensemble, which starred Johnny Lever, Jackie Shroff, Riteish Deshmukh, Abhishek Bachchan, and Akshay Kumar, was produced on a budget of Rs 225–240 crore.
