Several Bollywood films are slated to return with their sequels in 2026, and according to the latest reports, The Kerala Story is set to be one of them.
As per a report by News18 Showsha, the sequel to The Kerala Story has already been filmed in Kerala. Reports suggest that the upcoming instalment will present a grimmer and darker narrative compared to the first film. However, details regarding the cast and director of The Kerala Story 2 are being kept strictly under wraps.
A source quoted by News18 revealed, “The Kerala Story 2 is filmed already in an extremely controlled and secured manner. Producer Vipul Amrutlal Shah did not want any troubles to erupt during the shoot schedule."
The original film, directed by Sudipto Sen and starring Adah Sharma, was released in 2023. It revolved around the story of a group of women from Kerala who were allegedly coerced into converting to Islam and joining the Islamic State.
The source further informed that the film set operated under tight security arrangements, with strict confidentiality measures in place, including a no-phone policy to safeguard the film’s content.

The Kerala Story featured Adah Sharma, Siddhi Idnani, Yogita Bihani and Sonia Balani in key roles. The film was released in theatres on May 5, 2023, and went on to earn a worldwide gross of Rs 303.97 crore (US$36 million), emerging as the ninth-highest-grossing Hindi film of 2023.
At the 71st National Film Awards, The Kerala Story received two honours, winning Best Direction for Sudipto Sen and Best Cinematography.
