Tej Pratap Yadav, the National President of Jan Shakti Janata Dal (JJD), has stepped forward to support actor Rajpal Yadav, who is currently lodged in Delhi’s Tihar Jail after surrendering in a long-running cheque-bounce case of Rs 9 crore.
On Tuesday, Tej Pratap took to his official X account to express his concern over Rajpal Yadav’s situation. He shared that he was deeply saddened by the news of the actor being in jail and assured that his party would extend financial help to the actor’s family during this difficult phase.
In the note, Tej Pratap wrote, "I just received information about the pain of the family of the honorable Rajpal Yadav ji through the post of my elder brother Rao Inderjeet Yadav ji. In this extremely difficult time, I and my entire JJD (Jan Shakti Janata Dal) family stand in complete empathy and solidarity with their grieving family."
मानवीय… pic.twitter.com/IG4iblPRRq— Tej Pratap Yadav (@TejYadav14) February 10, 2026
He further announced that he and his party would provide financial assistance to help the family cope with the crisis. Elaborating on the support, Tej Pratap stated that the JJD would contribute Rs 11 lakh as immediate relief. In his message, he added, "With a spirit of human compassion and support, on behalf of the JJD family, I am providing financial assistance of Rs 11,00,000 (eleven lakh rupees) to their family. Tejpratap Yadav. National President. Jan Shakti Janata Dal."
Earlier, actor Sonu Sood had also come out in support of Rajpal Yadav, urging members of the film industry to stand by the actor. Sonu Sood shared a long message on Instagram, highlighting Rajpal’s contribution to cinema and the unfair turn life has taken for him.
Sonu Sood wrote, “Rajpal Yadav is a gifted actor who has given years of unforgettable work to our industry. Sometimes life turns unfair, not because of talent, but because timing can be brutal.”
He went on to make a significant announcement, offering Rajpal professional support once he is out. Sonu added, “He will be part of my film, and I believe this is the moment for all of us… producers, directors, colleagues to stand together. A small signing amount, adjustable against future work, is not charity, it’s dignity.”
The Rajpal Yadav Case
For the unversed, Rajpal Yadav had taken a loan of Rs 5 crore from a Delhi-based company in 2010 to finance his directorial venture Ata Pata Laapata.
Unfortunately, the film failed to perform at the box office, leaving the actor unable to repay the full loan amount. Rajpal and his wife later issued cheques to the lender, but these cheques bounced, prompting the lender to approach the court.
Over the years, the outstanding amount reportedly kept increasing, and current reports suggest that the liability has reached close to Rs 9 crore.
While Rajpal did make partial repayments, he was unable to clear the entire dues. Eventually, the court ordered him to surrender, a directive he complied with, following which he was sent to Tihar Jail.
Despite the legal setback, Rajpal Yadav continues to have work lined up in the film industry. He has upcoming projects such as Bhooth Bangla and Welcome to the Jungle awaiting release. The actor was last seen on screen in Baby John, and industry colleagues remain hopeful that he will return to films once he is out.
