Bollywood actor Saif Ali Khan, who also holds the title of the Nawab of Pataudi, along with his mother Sharmila Tagore and sisters, has achieved a decisive legal win in a long-standing property dispute in Bhopal, Madhya Pradesh. On Friday, the district court adjudicated in favor of the Pataudi family, dismissing a rival claim to a 16.62-acre ancestral land in the Nayapura area that had been contested for nearly 25 years.
The dispute began in 1998 when Akeel Ahmed and his associates filed a case asserting ownership of the land, alleging that it had been gifted in 1936 by Nawab Hamidullah Khan, a member of the erstwhile Bhopal royal family, to their ancestors. They argued that this transaction entitled them to the property. However, the petitioners failed to present any concrete documentary proof supporting their claim in court.
In its judgment, the court noted not only the absence of valid evidence but also the significant delay in filing the case as reasons to reject the petition in its entirety. The panel observed that the opposing side could not substantiate its contentions with credible records demonstrating any legitimate right over the land.
With this decision, the Pataudi family’s claim to the 16.62-acre land stands reaffirmed, effectively ending the decades-long legal battle. This stretch of land is considered ancestral property held by the family, which has historic ties to the former princely state of Bhopal.
