Ranveer Singh starrer Dhurandhar is generating waves for reasons far beyond the box office in India. The political action thriller has caused such a stir in Pakistan and reportedly has now reached a local court in Karachi.
According to the reports, a case against the director Aditya Dhar, producers, and important team members of Dhurandhar has been registered in a Karachi district court through a legal application.
Applicant Mohammad Amir filed an application under Section 22-A & B of the Criminal Procedure Code before the District and Sessions Court (South), claiming to be a PPP employee and citing the director, producer, actors, and other crew members of the Indian film Dhurandhar as proposed accused and pertinent police officials as respondents.
The applicant argued that the movie's trailer depicted the PPP as sympathetic to terrorists, called Lyari a "terrorist war zone," and unlawfully used pictures of the party flag and former PPP chairperson.
The applicant claimed to have seen the official trailer and promotional materials for the movie on social media while he was at a café on December 10 within the Darakhshan police station's jurisdiction.
Additionally, he claimed that pictures of the late former prime minister Benazir Bhutto, the party's flag, and images from rallies were used in the film without any legal authorisation, and that the party's portrayal as being sympathetic to terrorists was untrue, manufactured, and intended to incite animosity toward the PPP, its leadership, and its supporters.
He further claimed that the movie's designation of Karachi, and more especially Lyari, as a "terrorist war zone" was inflammatory, deceptive, and damaging to the nation's and its citizens' reputations.
The applicant argued that the proposed accused individuals were accountable for the production, distribution, and creation of the provocative and defamatory content, which attracted criminal intimidation, provocation with intent to cause rioting, and inciting animosity between various groups, among other offences.

Additionally, he argued that he had filed a formal complaint with the SHO for the registration of a FIR since he had experienced mental anguish, distress, and reputational damage while under the Darakhshan police station's jurisdiction, but the police had rejected it.
The applicant requested orders for the SHO to file the case and for the Senior Superintendent of Police South to oversee the investigation.
