In a significant breakthrough in the investigation into extortion threats made against actor Ranveer Singh, the Mumbai Police has issued a Look Out Circular (LOC) against Harichandra, also known as Harry Boxer. He is believed to be associated with the notorious Lawrence Bishnoi gang and is suspected of being involved in issuing a ransom threat to the actor.

According to ANI, Ranveer Singh received a threatening WhatsApp voice note on his manager’s phone. In the audio message, the sender identified himself as Harry Boxer and allegedly demanded a ransom of Rs 20 crore.

Investigators revealed that the voice message was transmitted using a Virtual Private Network (VPN), a tactic employed to hide the sender’s network identity and location. Authorities have sent the audio clip to Punjab and Haryana for technical verification and further analysis, an official confirmed.

As part of the ongoing probe, the police have recorded the statement of Ranveer Singh’s manager. Officials have also indicated that similar high-profile threats were directed at actors Ranveer Singh and Aayush Sharma, with investigators suspecting a broader connection to the Lawrence Bishnoi gang.

These latest developments are unfolding against the backdrop of the January 31, 2024, firing incident outside filmmaker Rohit Shetty’s residence in Juhu. Police believe the threats may be part of a coordinated campaign to intimidate prominent figures in the film industry.

Officials stated that the Bishnoi gang had earlier claimed responsibility for the firing through a social media post.

On February 17, five individuals arrested in connection with the Rohit Shetty firing case were presented before the MCOCA court after the completion of their initial police custody. The court subsequently remanded them to police custody until February 23. The accused — Aditya Gaikki, Siddharth Yenpure, Samarth Pomaji, Swapnil Sakat, and Asaram Fasale — were apprehended in Pune. During the court proceedings, Swapnil Sakat alleged that the police coerced his statement and compelled him to sign certain documents.

According to sources within the Mumbai Police, four individuals were directly involved in the Rohit Shetty firing case: Deepak Sharma, Sunny, Sonu, and another accused who remains absconding.

Deepak Sharma is alleged to have fired the shots, while the others were reportedly present nearby at the time of the incident. Sonu had been residing in Kalyan for two years before recently returning to his village in Agra. Police sources indicated that he was allegedly involved in supplying arms and maintained contact with the other accused.

Authorities further stated that although Deepak Sharma allegedly executed the firing, the remaining accused were not positioned at the exact location during the shooting but were in close proximity.

Further inquiries are currently underway.

So far, the Mumbai Police investigation into the Rohit Shetty residence firing case has resulted in the arrest of 12 individuals, including the main shooter, Deepak Sharma.

The Anti-Extortion Cell of the Mumbai Crime Branch is leading the investigation, and provisions of the MCOCA (Maharashtra Control of Organised Crime Act) have been invoked in the case.
