His release was delayed because of verification and documentation procedures that were finished later that day, even though bail had been granted a day earlier.
In an interview with News Pinch, businessman Madhav Gopal Agrawal, who had provided the loan, spoke out about the situation after Rajpal Yadav was given temporary bail.
Through MP Mithilesh Kumar Katheria, Agrawal claimed to have first met Rajpal Yadav, who informed him that the actor's movie Ata Pata Laapata was almost finished. He said that the actor had stated that "everything would go to waste" if there was no quick funding.
After receiving heartfelt messages from Rajpal Yadav's wife, Radha, asking for support, Agrawal claimed he finally agreed to assist, despite his initial reluctance. He went on to say that because he had borrowed money to pay for the loan, he even "cried in front of him like a child" while begging for clarification on payback.
This came after the Delhi High Court sentenced Rajpal Yadav to six months in prison in a ten-year-old check-bounce case. The actor reportedly borrowed Rs 5 crore from a businessman in Delhi in 2010 to finance Ata Pata Laapata, his directorial debut.
His attorney claims that after several years of unsuccessful attempts to arrange the reimbursement, Rajpal made the decision to turn himself in to the Tihar Jail authorities last week.
