After nearly four decades in limbo, the Hindi film Hum Mein Shahenshah Kaun — starring legendary actors Rajinikanth, Shatrughan Sinha and Hema Malini — is finally poised to hit cinemas across India. Originally shot in 1989, the multi-starrer was completed but never released, leaving fans waiting for what has become one of Bollywood’s most talked-about unreleased projects.

The film, produced by Raja Roy Films and presented by Rex Music Entertainment, also features an ensemble cast that includes Anita Raj, Prem Chopra, Sharat Saxena, Sharad Saxena, as well as the late cinema icons Amrish Puri and Jagdeep. It was directed by the late Harmesh Malhotra, a filmmaker known for his work in classic Bollywood cinema.

Although Hum Mein Shahenshah Kaun was fully shot in the late 1980s, it was never submitted for certification at the time, so it remained shelved indefinitely. The prolonged delay stemmed from a series of personal and professional setbacks: soon after finishing the film, producer Raja Roy relocated to London for business and suffered the devastating loss of his young son, halting production momentum. Tragically, director Harmesh Malhotra later passed away, adding to the obstacles that prevented the project from moving forward.

Now, decades later, the film has been carefully restored and technically enhanced for modern audiences. The restoration process included AI-assisted visual and audio improvements, 4K remastering, and 5.1 surround sound mastering, bringing the classic project up to contemporary theatrical standards while preserving its original cinematic spirit.

Producer Raja Roy has expressed deep gratitude that the film will finally reach audiences after “grief, setbacks and long silence,” calling its release “a destiny fulfilled.” For viewers and fans of classic Indian cinema, Hum Mein Shahenshah Kaun offers a rare opportunity to experience a long-lost Bollywood epic featuring some of the industry’s most iconic performers from a bygone era.
